This calculator is part of Calculate Wiki’s Everyday Calculators collection.
What You’ll Need
- GPA (4.0 scale)
- SAT Score (or ACT score × 40 as an approximate conversion)
- Extracurricular Strength — self-rated 1–10
- Essay / Personal Statement Strength — self-rated 1–10
Formula Used
Composite score = (GPA score × 40%) + (Test score × 30%) + (Extracurricular score × 15%) + (Essay score × 15%)
Each component is normalized to a 0–100 scale before weighting.
Example Calculation
Using example inputs — GPA = 3.7; SAT = 1300; Extracurricular = 7; Essay = 7 — the College Admission Simulator returns:
| Value | Result |
|---|---|
| GPA contribution (40%) | 37.0 |
| Test score contribution (30%) | 22.5 |
| Extracurricular contribution (15%) | 10.5 |
| Essay contribution (15%) | 10.5 |
| Composite score | 80.5 / 100 |
Highly Competitive, with a composite score of 80.5 / 100.
Helpful Information
This tool is a simplified simulation, not an official admissions prediction. Real admissions committees evaluate applications holistically, weighing factors this calculator can’t capture — recommendation letters, demonstrated interest, institutional priorities, and the specific applicant pool each year. The extracurricular and essay ratings are self-assessed and inherently subjective. Use this as a general self-reflection tool only, not a guarantee of any outcome.
